Evaluation for photo essay.

For this assignment we were required to create a "photo essay" based on the vimeo project of the same name:

"Whether it's guys dropping in on thirty foot waves, a family's first trip to Disney World or a plastic bag floating aimlessly against a brick wall, moving images have excited or comforted all of us at some point. What we're perhaps less accustomed to is the power of still images. More specifically, series of photographs set to sound, used to tell a story. We frequently see this used in online journalism. I suppose you could call these "slideshows," but it would be more appropriate to call these "photo essays."

I choose to do my photo essay on a day of a plate - from cupboard to kitchen tops, food being put on it, food being eaten and finally being washed after dinner. I wanted to do this as I felt it was a unique ideas - something different, that not many people would have thought to do.

The shots:
Shot 1: the reason i photographed the plate in the cupboard was to make it seem as if that was its home so at the end when the plates put back into the cupboard they know its home and its the end of the film. i like this shot because it makes the plate seem alone even though its with other plates, then in the next few shots when the food is put on to the plate it makes it seem happy. i wanted the shots to make it feel like the viewers were actually taking the photos in a 1st person perspective.

Shot 5: this shot shows the full plate of food and when bit by bit it gets eaten, i decided that instead of showing where the food is going i would just eat some and take the picture which gives the film the feel of 1st person as if they were they're.

Editing: i edited this film so it looked a bit like a slideshow but still seemed as if it were a film, i did this because it keeps the audiences attention. i changed the length of the clips to a second a frame so that it was snappy but still gelled together which gave it the movie feel. i used mainly close ups so it made the viewer seem like they were there taking the photo, and this was noticed by my peers who complimented me on it.

Music: 'Food Glorious Food' the reason i used this song is because the video is about food, it all so ties in well with the black and white shots because its an old classic song and black&white is usually associated with old films. the music to this video makes the video i feel because with out the music people watching would just think ohh wow its a plate of food but with the music it adds a happy atmosphere to video.

Feedback:
The feedback I received from my peers in the class was good. There were suggestions as to how i could improve my film such as taking more shots so it could be longer. Some people said the music fit well with the video and the fact that its old music on a black and white video makes it stand out. Alex liked the stop animation because it told a story.

Bad Boys 2 Marcus on ecstasy.

The reason we shot them driving to the captains house is because we wanted to set the scene, it allowed us to hint that marcus was feeling the effects of the ecstasy instead of starting the scene in the captains house. We used a variety of shots to give the viewer the impression that they were sat with him when he was filmed, the reason we didn't use many close ups inside the house is because we wanted to included mike and the captain in the shots so it would seem as if they were looking at him in the shot it also gives a 3rd person effect because marcus or the captain will be in the shot and its shot from the others perspective.

The close up of marcus looking at the fish threw the tank so his head looks bigger and stretched and not the fish, it was from the fishes perspective. This shot was easy to film and the close up worked a lot better than a medium shot because his face looks bigger and stretched.

My ideas for haiku.

idea1: my first idea was to do my film on my ped, but just filming my ped stationary would be abit boring and trying to film while riding was to dangerous so i had to rethink my ideas. The reason i thought of this idea is because i wanted to show a kind of racing scene with the noises from Moto GP bikes etc.

idea2: my second idea was to film my little cousin playing football and to have crowd chants and cheering to make it seem like he was playing for a proper team, but on the day dyl (my little cousin) didnt feel up to playing footy because it was my aunts birthday so that idea went out the window.

idea3. this idea was 3rd idea and is the idea i choose to use, we have a cat that lives next door but it always comes round to our house and wants to stay. So i had the idea of filming the cat because it is a very weird looking cat. It is a 'devon rex' from Egypt she is lovely and playful as shown in the video.

idea4. idea 4 was to film my football game on sunday and to use commentary from the 1996 world cup final when we won it. But because i recent rules werent not aloud to film games unless all parents give consent and the other team didnt want their players being filmed so i couldnt use this idea which is a shame because i thought it would have been really good and life like.

schedule of shooting for friday.

Book out the camera on Thursday.
Friday morning i will get up early and take a 10 second video of the pub that is being renovated, then about an hour later i will take another 10 second video of the local park that has recently being re-designed and re-build but still no one uses it, an hour after that i will shoot a 10 second of the football pitch that hasn't been used in years. i haven't decided on the other locations yet but when i do i will put them in a new post :) i will then edit in the sounds when back at college on the tuesday. by going round the village in a logical order it will give a sense of how big the village is and how the atmosphere can change.

Practice Proposal (hangover).

Proposal.

A synopsis.
the hangover is a humorous comical film, which will take place in Las Vegas following 4 friends Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug on a stag weekend. Everything goes according to plan until the friends venture on to the roof of the 5star hotel.  When the 3 friends wake up to a ransacked hotel room and can’t remember anything + Doug is no where to be found. In a city they’ve been to before the 3 friends must try and find Doug and try to find out what happened on they’re first stag weekend. The hangover will have your sides hurting and your eyes watering from start to finish.

The audience.
The hangover is rated 15 due to the adult humour, strong language and use of drugs. We are confident that the audience will be able to relate to the movie allowing them to give their friends an over view of the film. There is an audience for this type of film because of pervious films like this such as hot tub time machine, dude where’s my car, American pie, liar liar, juno, due date and superbad.

The big idea.
This is a unique film like no other before it, the storyline is almost like a real life night out. With twists and turns that you will never expect the hangover is almost like a documentary of a type stag weekend. This is the first film of this type so it attract an audience because it’s a whole new idea all in one.

The conflict.
Threw out the film they’re will be lots of conflict one being the friends losing there about-to-be-wed buddy Doug, gambling, prostitutes, tiger in the bathroom, over night marriage, Asian mafia, drugs, stolen police car, lost baby. As you can see the hangover is highly inappropriate but also highly humorous.

Structure.
At the beginning the 4 friends make they’re way up to the hotel and get ready for a good night out, before they make they’re way up to the hotel roof. On a drug fuelled stag night the friends wake up to find a trashed hotel room, loss of memory and Doug is no where to be found. Finding a p*ssed off tiger in the bathroom the friends begin to search for clues to what actually happened the night before. Coming into contact with the Asian mafia and using Alan’s unique gambling skills to raise money to buy back Doug from the Asian mafia. But all is not well when they find out its not they’re friend Doug but the man that explains what actually happened.

Resolution.
They find Doug on the roof and manage to get to the wedding on time and Stu finally confronts his evil wife.

'local tour' final idea.

silent/empty village, still 10second shots of places that should be busy but aren't, such as the local park, local school, local pub, local football pitch, my road, and school field. then edit in the sounds that would be there if they were busy.

ideas for local tour.

local park, tour of the village sped up when walking then when village shops come into shot slow it down to normal speed then speed up again when walking to next destination giving a sense of a quick local tour which is what its meant to be.
