Local Industry.

Nick Owen.
Nick has worked in regional and national television since the late 1970s. He came to national prominence in 1983 as one of the first faces to appear on breakfast television in Britain.

Before Anne Diamond and Nick teamed up on the TV-am sofa, Nick worked at the Birmingham Post and what was BBC Radio Birmingham, before moving to ATV's sports department, later to become Central.

When Central won the Independent Television franchise in the Midlands, Nick became a general presenter and teamed up with Anne Diamond for the first time. In 1983 he joined TV-am as sports presenter, but soon took over the main presenting role.

He also hosted Olympic Games and World Cup coverage as well as a variety of other sports programmes, including athletics and boxing. He went on to anchor the game shows Sporting Triangles and Hitman, as well as presenting all ITV's royal premieres between 1986 and 1992. He moved to the BBC to co-present Good Morning With Anne and Nick on BBC One.

In 2006, he was awarded the Baird Medal by the Royal Television Society, Midlands, for lifelong achievement in television.

Suzanne Virdee.
Suzanne joined the Midlands Today presentation team in April 2001 to present the late night bulletin and took over as the main presenter the following year.

After passing her journalism exams, Suzanne worked for Central Television before heading back to newspapers and working for the Sunday Mercury and then the Birmingham Evening Mail. She then joined BBC WM but after 16 months moved to Central News as a reporter, producer and presenter.

She is married to Andrew, who is a freelance national newspaper photographer. Outside work Suzanne enjoys cooking, reading biographies, going to the theatre and spending time with her family and friends and her cat Monty!

Evaluation for photo essay.

For this assignment we were required to create a "photo essay" based on the vimeo project of the same name:

"Whether it's guys dropping in on thirty foot waves, a family's first trip to Disney World or a plastic bag floating aimlessly against a brick wall, moving images have excited or comforted all of us at some point. What we're perhaps less accustomed to is the power of still images. More specifically, series of photographs set to sound, used to tell a story. We frequently see this used in online journalism. I suppose you could call these "slideshows," but it would be more appropriate to call these "photo essays."

I choose to do my photo essay on a day of a plate - from cupboard to kitchen tops, food being put on it, food being eaten and finally being washed after dinner. I wanted to do this as I felt it was a unique ideas - something different, that not many people would have thought to do.

The shots:
Shot 1: the reason i photographed the plate in the cupboard was to make it seem as if that was its home so at the end when the plates put back into the cupboard they know its home and its the end of the film. i like this shot because it makes the plate seem alone even though its with other plates, then in the next few shots when the food is put on to the plate it makes it seem happy. i wanted the shots to make it feel like the viewers were actually taking the photos in a 1st person perspective.

Shot 5: this shot shows the full plate of food and when bit by bit it gets eaten, i decided that instead of showing where the food is going i would just eat some and take the picture which gives the film the feel of 1st person as if they were they're.

Editing: i edited this film so it looked a bit like a slideshow but still seemed as if it were a film, i did this because it keeps the audiences attention. i changed the length of the clips to a second a frame so that it was snappy but still gelled together which gave it the movie feel. i used mainly close ups so it made the viewer seem like they were there taking the photo, and this was noticed by my peers who complimented me on it.

Music: 'Food Glorious Food' the reason i used this song is because the video is about food, it all so ties in well with the black and white shots because its an old classic song and black&white is usually associated with old films. the music to this video makes the video i feel because with out the music people watching would just think ohh wow its a plate of food but with the music it adds a happy atmosphere to video.

Feedback:
The feedback I received from my peers in the class was good. There were suggestions as to how i could improve my film such as taking more shots so it could be longer. Some people said the music fit well with the video and the fact that its old music on a black and white video makes it stand out. Alex liked the stop animation because it told a story.

Bad Boys 2 Marcus on ecstasy.

The reason we shot them driving to the captains house is because we wanted to set the scene, it allowed us to hint that marcus was feeling the effects of the ecstasy instead of starting the scene in the captains house. We used a variety of shots to give the viewer the impression that they were sat with him when he was filmed, the reason we didn't use many close ups inside the house is because we wanted to included mike and the captain in the shots so it would seem as if they were looking at him in the shot it also gives a 3rd person effect because marcus or the captain will be in the shot and its shot from the others perspective.

The close up of marcus looking at the fish threw the tank so his head looks bigger and stretched and not the fish, it was from the fishes perspective. This shot was easy to film and the close up worked a lot better than a medium shot because his face looks bigger and stretched.

My ideas for haiku.

idea1: my first idea was to do my film on my ped, but just filming my ped stationary would be abit boring and trying to film while riding was to dangerous so i had to rethink my ideas. The reason i thought of this idea is because i wanted to show a kind of racing scene with the noises from Moto GP bikes etc.

idea2: my second idea was to film my little cousin playing football and to have crowd chants and cheering to make it seem like he was playing for a proper team, but on the day dyl (my little cousin) didnt feel up to playing footy because it was my aunts birthday so that idea went out the window.

idea3. this idea was 3rd idea and is the idea i choose to use, we have a cat that lives next door but it always comes round to our house and wants to stay. So i had the idea of filming the cat because it is a very weird looking cat. It is a 'devon rex' from Egypt she is lovely and playful as shown in the video.

idea4. idea 4 was to film my football game on sunday and to use commentary from the 1996 world cup final when we won it. But because i recent rules werent not aloud to film games unless all parents give consent and the other team didnt want their players being filmed so i couldnt use this idea which is a shame because i thought it would have been really good and life like.
